THE HUMBLE DON’T GRUMBLE

Father God, thank You that the humble don’t grumble. Today’s God Sonnet was inspired by this Bible Verse: “Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is Standing at the Door” (James 5:9). The sonnet was also inspired by this Bible Verse: “If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone(Romans 12:18). I’ve always been challenged by the latter Bible Verse because I’m afraid if it depends on my part to live at peace with everyone, I might not be able to accomplish this. But that’s where Your Son and our Savior and Deliverer, Jesus Christ, comes in. ONLY through Jesus Christ is it possible on my part to live at PEACE with everyone. I sometimes hold and love (BOTH) a complaint, a begrudge, a quarrel, a nudge, a bickering, just as much as the next guy. Why? Because I think I know what I’m talking about, when the truth is I often and hardly (BOTH) know what I’m talking about. I need You, Father God, to do my talking for me. Otherwise, yes, I will stumble. Thank You that I can flee a bickering, that I can hold PEACE and let them stumble. The world wants us rough-and-tumble. Why? Because the world wants us in fear so that we will hold and love (BOTH) a complaint, a begrudge, a quarrel, a nudge, a bickering. Jesus, on the Other Hand, wants us humble so we won’t grumble. Why? Because Jesus wants us at PEACE with everyone. On a more personal note, I’m hoping and praying (BOTH) that my polar bear friends in the picture will come to live at PEACE with each other through Jesus. I’m not sure what they are arguing about, but it may be that their ice is melting because of climate change and they’re taking it out on each other. They might even be arguing that humans, given dominion (NOT domination), have taken it upon themselves to destroy Creation, Your Creation that You, Father God, so Lovingly Created for us to live at PEACE with all, BOTH humans and nonhuman animals. I hope and pray (BOTH) we will come to live at PEACE with each other, BOTH humans and nonhuman animals, through the PEACE of Jesus Christ. I pray all of this in the Wonderful and Precious and PEACE Name of Jesus Christ, the Name above every other name, including my own name. This prayer is answered by my faith and my belief. Please help me, Father God, where my faith and my belief are melting like the ice my polar friends so desperately need. Amen.

(God’s Sonnet by Timothy J. Verret; “it’s how I cope to hope [BOTH] that the humble includes me so I don’t grumble this daily leavened bread.”)

When you grumble, Behold, One Stands to Judge.

When you hold a complaint, Behold, One Grips.

The humble don’t grumble, don’t hold begrudge.

Grip God so you grumble not from your lips.

When I grumble, Beloved, One Stands to Judge.

When I love a quarrel, Beloved, One Groans.

The humble don’t grumble, don’t love a nudge.

Groan God so I grumble not grievance tones.

“At PEACE with all, as IT depends on ME,”

says Jesus. “The humble, they don’t grumble.

When they want to love bickering, you flee.

When you want to hold PEACE, they will stumble.”

The world tells us to be “rough-and-tumble.”

Jesus tells us the humble don’t grumble.

  1. I grumble but also want to be humble. Is it all or nothing? Can I be somewhere on the spectrum. Says Jesus, “the humble, they don’t grumble”

  2. Since we’re human, we’re gonna grumble. Since we grumble, we’re human. I wonder if we say we’re spiritually humble, we won’t grumble? Somebody better tell the Sharks and the Jets from WEST SIDE STORY that the g”rumble” is over! 😉
