“Father God, thank You that the First Thing and the Last Thing we want and See is Your Son and our Savior and Deliverer, Jesus Christ. ‘Who I be’ and ‘Who I See’ is Jesus, BOTH the First Thing AND the Last Thing. ‘I am BOTH the Alpha AND the Omega, BOTH the First AND the Last, BOTH the Beginning AND the End’ (Revelation 22:13). On a more personal note, forgive me, Father, that I tend to play with Your Word a bit like I just did with adding ‘BOTH’ and capitalizing ‘AND’ in this verse. I tend to do this to make Your Word come alive for me. I pray, Father God, that You welcome this aliveness in me to make ‘who I be’ and ‘Who I See’ (BOTH) come alive, as I read, reflect, and meditate on Your Word and allow Your Word to speak to me uniquely and individually (BOTH). I pray this aliveness in others, as well. On another personal note, I got inspired to write this God Sonnet because the First Thing I do in the morning is NOT ‘Dream Up God’ or ‘Confide In God.’ I do other things that need not be mentioned. All that need be mentioned is that I pray that I spend the next day the First Thing worshiping God. The Last Thing? End the next day spent the First Thing. I pray He’s the First Thing AND the Last Thing (BOTH) I See just as much as it is God’s nonhuman animals I See the First Thing and the Last Thing (BOTH). If I could See He as I See God’s nonhuman animals, I would be Seeing He all day long, forever more, to the very end of the age. That’s how much I See God’s nonhuman animals and their ‘plight and fright’ in this anthropocentric world that sees them the ‘last thing’ (‘the least of these’ – Matthew 25:40). I often, if not always, see them the ‘first thing.’ I pray all of this in the Wonderful and Precious and the First Thing/the Last Thing Name of Jesus Christ, and this prayer is answered by my faith and my belief. Please help me, Father God, where my faith and my belief are lacking. Amen.”
(God’s Sonnet by Timothy J. Verret; “it’s how I cope to hope in the First Thing AND the Last Thing [BOTH] is Jesus Christ this daily leavened [Jesus BOTH!] bread.”)
You want the first thing to be, “what I want.”
You want the first thing to be, “who I be?”
The first thing on your mind is “Confidant.”
Confide In God! The First Thing is heart’s free.
I want the first thing to be, “who sees me?”
I want the first thing to be, “Who I See.”
The first thing on my mind is “fantasy.”
Dream Up God! The First Thing is reality.
“The First Thing you want is the First you See,”
says Jesus. “It’s ME you want Who you See.
The First Thing you want is Love, ’cause you See?
The First Thing that’s ME, the Last Thing you See.”
Spend the First Thing this day of worshiping.
The Last Thing? End this day spent the First Thing.
