SHIFTING SHADOWS

“Father God, help us down below in this world’s shifting shadows. We know that You, Father God, are never shift, only still, and every Good and Perfect Gift of stilled Grace is from You Above, brought down below through Your Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. While the world groans in shifts of shifting shadows, let us rest in the still of You, Father God. BOTH humans AND nonhuman animals are equally shifting shadows and equally deserving of the still of You, Father God, as our bench mark. I pray all of this in the Wonderful and Precious Name of Jesus Christ, and this prayer is answered by my faith and my belief. Please help me, Father God, where my faith and my belief are lacking. Amen.”

(God’s Sonnet by Timothy J. Verret; “it’s how I cope to hope in no shifting shadows down here but only Father of Heavenly Lights bringing down from Above stilled Grace this daily leavened [Jesus Rises!] bread.”)

You move as shifting shadows down below.

Taking and racing have become your “dark.”

Don’t you know God is never shift? You flow

the shift, God rests the still of a bench mark.

I’m shifting shadows when I’m moving fast.

What is my hurry? What is this “fast lot?”

“Be still, not shift. I am your God. The last

first.” Tortoise defeating hare was long shot.

“Shift not below for Above is stilled Grace:”

says Jesus. “Only Perfect and Good Gifts.”

They come down from My Father to your place

of shifting shadows where all groan in shifts.”

Father of Heavenly Lights won’t oppose

you and I stilled in world’s shifting shadows.

  1. I shift and feel like I’m on the run. I leave a forever moving shadow. The Buddhists say be still and that is the start of all being good

  2. I think those Buddhists are onto something, Dag. Even Christians who know the verse, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10), still aren’t….well, still 😉
