(God’s Sonnet by Timothy J. Verret; “it’s how I cope to hope in no backslide now that Jesus has me lying down”)
You don’t want to go back to once sliding,
falling, dropping into the pit of black.
You climbed a long way up, baby! Gliding
now above who you once were: Selfish hack.
If I backslide, I’ll be forever lame.
No more me to kick hard or kick around.
I’ve climbed this far not to go back to shame.
God loves me too much to go underground.
Finally, we confess our errored ways.
We say, “Have all of me, God, good AND bad.”
God takes it all and makes it pray and praise.
From back to front, side to side, God is glad.
We can’t know all God’s Plans before we’ve died.
We do know sheep of Jesus don’t backslide.
